prayer for the new

Hi friends!

You may have seen a version or two of this prayer on Facebook or Instagram in recent years. It continues to morph as the landscape of our souls and the world change. We're offering you a couple alternative phrases in parentheses for you to try on as you make this prayer your own. Or maybe you'd like to go even further and pray this in your own words.

Jesus

we give You

last year

with its close calls

rescues

traps and sorrows

collapses and renewals

crises and joys

stains and scars

we give You this new year

with its caution and expectancy

we lift it high up to You

when it has barely broken the horizon

take it up into Your hands

along with our uncertain

yet grateful souls

look it over with Your kind eyes

trim away the excess

the chaos

the reticence

as we poise at the gate

fueled with hope (or cobbling together glimmers of hope)

blackened with the burn marks from last year

but with new wisdom etched in our souls

somehow, we are ready to go again

as the planet is ready for a new revolution

around the sun

there is much to learn

adventures to welcome and not to fear (or, amid the fear)

believing You post Your angels everywhere

and that the same providence

that steered us through the cataclysm of pain and loss

is still present

ever aware

on the watch

and worthy of our second-by-second trust

walk with us into the next, O God

into the rising new year

even though

our knees are shaking a little from the old one.

May you feel held by God's love, immersed in His peace, strengthened by His grace, and fully known and seen by Him. He is always with you.

With much love,

Greg & Corinne

Oh, my goodness - what a beautiful, humble and truthful prayer to our Lord for our New Year. Such an exquisite portrayal of our hearts, I believe in community and individually as we process our past and look forward with hesitancy, as you indicate, to our future. Thank you for your gifts, for your words so eloquently linked and for your hearts for Jesus Christ, our Lord. Blessings and health to both of you in this New Year. "God bless us everyone"....:) Love, Mag
